Vanessa earned an MFA from Penn State University, where she took advanced classes in flat patterning and draping.

CRAZY FOR YOU - DRAPER AUTUMN 2025
For the show Crazy for You, Vanessa was in charge of the costumes for Polly, the female lead. Working alongside her First Hand, Emily Webb, she patterned both the finale dress and Polly's western shirt body. Polly was played by Emily Mooreland.

For a studio project, Vanessa made a 18th century watteau dress and woman's ensemble. Her fit model was Kathleen Myron. Vanessa did not make the understructures for this dress, but has experience making stays and pocket hoops. The wig was styled by Emily Webb.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL - DRAPER/STITCHER
AUTUMN 2023
For the play A Christmas Carol, Vanessa draped and stitched the costume for Mrs. Cratchit, played by Kris Danford. The rendering was an old pattern image, the bodice and sleeves were flat patterned and the skirt was traced in CLO3D.

PATTERNING CLASS - SPRING 2018
For her final project in Advanced Clothing Studies: Patternmaking, Vanessa was required to make a custom pant and bodice sloper, then create a garment with the skills she had learned. Vanessa made a custom sloper to fit herself and patterned a custom Batman varsity jacket.

LIGHT UP THE SKY - DRAPER/STITCHER AUTUMN 2018
During her undergraduate classes, Vanessa flat-patterned and draped a custom yellow linen gown from Bett Shouse's design for actress Rachel Hodge, playing Frances in the USU production of Light Up the Sky. The dress base was flat patterned and the pleats were draped on the form.
