Vanessa earned an MFA from Penn State University, where she took advanced classes in flat patterning and draping.

ELIZABETHAN WOMAN STUDIO PROJECT -
AUTUMN 2025

For a studio project, Vanessa created a female-presenting Elizabethan costume. The design was one based on a costume in stock at the Penn State University costume shop. Vanessa created the underskirt/petticoat, dickie, bodice and overskirt.

CRAZY FOR YOU - DRAPER AUTUMN 2025

For the show Crazy for You, Vanessa was in charge of the costumes for Polly, the female lead. Working alongside her First Hand, Emily Webb, she patterned both the finale dress and Polly's western shirt body. Polly was played by Emily Mooreland.

RHINOCEROS - DRAPER AUTUMN 2025

For the play Rhinoceros, Vanessa draped the jacket and dress for Daisy, played by Teagan Boyd. She was assisted by her First Hand, Emily Webb.

REGENCY WOMAN STUDIO PROJECT - SPRING 2025

For a studio project, Vanessa made a Regency-era man's and woman's ensemble. Her fit model was Amanda Ferg, for whom she made an apron front dress.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND - DRAPER/STITCHER
SPRING 2025

For the play Alice in Wonderland, Vanessa was a draper for the main character, Alice, played by Drake Daboul. She also draped the costume for the White Queen, played by Rafaela Torchia.

18TH CENTURY WOMAN STUDIO PROJECT - SPRING 2025

For a studio project, Vanessa made a 18th century watteau dress and woman's ensemble. Her fit model was Kathleen Myron. Vanessa did not make the understructures for this dress, but has experience making stays and pocket hoops. The wig was styled by Emily Webb.

HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS - DRAPER/STITCHER SPRING 2025

For the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Vanessa was a draper for the character Miss Jones, played by Chloe Evans. Costume design was by Micheal Ciaramitaro.

TURN OF THE CENTURY STUDIO PROJECT -
AUTUMN 2024

For a studio project, Vanessa created a turn-of-the-century costume based on a 1903 dress from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Vanessa draped, patterned and constructed this outfit.

For the play Tartuffe, Vanessa was a draper in charge of making the ensemble for Eleanor, played by Emma-Kate Angelo. Costume designer was Hilary Hayes.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL - DRAPER/STITCHER
AUTUMN 2023

For the play A Christmas Carol, Vanessa draped and stitched the costume for Mrs. Cratchit, played by Kris Danford. The rendering was an old pattern image, the bodice and sleeves were flat patterned and the skirt was traced in CLO3D.

PATTERNING CLASS - SPRING 2018

For her final project in Advanced Clothing Studies: Patternmaking, Vanessa was required to make a custom pant and bodice sloper, then create a garment with the skills she had learned. Vanessa made a custom sloper to fit herself and patterned a custom Batman varsity jacket.

LIGHT UP THE SKY - DRAPER/STITCHER AUTUMN 2018

During her undergraduate classes, Vanessa flat-patterned and draped a custom yellow linen gown from Bett Shouse's design for actress Rachel Hodge, playing Frances in the USU production of Light Up the Sky. The dress base was flat patterned and the pleats were draped on the form.
